Miracles of the Optina Martyrs – Fr. Vasily, Trophim and Therapont
On April 5/18, 1993, three monks of the famous Optina Monastery in Russia were slain with a knife that had the numbers “666” on inscribed on the handle. It was the act of a Satanist, whose master hates all mankind but especially monks. But these men, Hieromonk Vasily and monks Trophim and Therapont, are now considered by Russian Orthodox faithful to be holy martyrs—and many facts in their lives show that the Lord had prepared His chosen ones for such an end. Now through their prayers, miracles happen. Here are a few examples taken from the Optina Monastery website. My son was twelve years old; he was absolutely unbelieving and rejected the faith. As his mother I insisted and brought him to Optina Monastery. He found the Liturgies burdensome, but after the service we went out to the graves of the Optina New Martyrs where we sat down on a bench (there was no chapel there yet). And what happened at their graves was a true miracle for our family. My son who until that moment had been a non-believer said: “Mommy, it is so peaceful here. Archimandrite Roman /Braga/ who grew up and served in Romania under the communist regime passed away at the age of 93 on April 28, 2015 in the Dormition of the Holy Virgin and Mother of God Monastery in Michigan, USA. The interview from 2012 was published by the Orthodox Church in America. Father, to start with, what can you tell us about the monastic way of life? This is a good question. First, however, you have to understand the Romanian cultural environment when I was young – in the 1920’s -1950’s. The Romanian people, I think, were always inclined toward the monastic way of life, because being monastic and leading a monastic type life does not mean only to go and live in a monastery. A Basket of Charity
Two years ago on the Eve of the Nativity of our Lord the Parish Council and the community of the church of Saint Paraskevi decided that it is not right and it is not proper to find excuses every day that we haven’t the money, time, place or anything else, – to help the needy. And thus we began an initiative to collect packaged food which we in our turn hand over to people and families in need. The idea was for the initiative to continue until the Theophany of our Lord, but the basket kept being not only filled to the brim, but overflowing, and this continues until the present day. God fills the basket, and God also sends us those who need it.

Словото Божие утвърждава, че болестите и телесните немощи са влезли в света заедно с греха и смъртта като последица от грехопадението на прародителите Адам и Ева. Митрополит Антоний Сурожски пише: „В Св. Писание е описана съдбата на човечеството след падението: постепенно сред човешкия род се вмъкнала смъртта. Смъртта дошла, но хората продължили да живеят дълго. Ако се проследи обаче родословието на човешкия род, се вижда как тази продължителност на живота все повече намалявала, защото и хората отслабвали телом, тяхната връзка със света ставала все по-дълбока и смъртта имала все повече и повече власт над тях. Болестта, както и смъртта, от гледището на Св. Православна Църква е резултат от отпадането на човека от Бога. Бог е хармония, Бог е живот, пълнота и доколкото ние отпадаме от Бога, губим и нашата жизнеспособност. И пустотата, която настъпва при тази загуба на жизнеспособност, се запълва от смъртта и болестите… В голяма част това се отнася за всички нас, но съществува и още един момент. Може да възникне въпроса: добре, ние сме грешни, боледуваме и това е резултат от нашето духовно състояние, от нашето непълноценно съединение с Бог или непълноценна устременост към Него. Но какво тогава да кажем за светиите? Защо са боледували и те?
